Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex!
Your workmanship is marvelous--and how well I know it.
We
are continuing our study from Psalm 139, we will see the characteristics of our
relationship with JESUS.
You may be surprised and delighted to know how deeply it runs! JESUS
is our Maker (Part 2) There are
some very interesting things about our bodies. Food that is good for us smells
and tastes good. Food that has spoiled smells and tastes bad! Loud
noises make us duck or run for cover. When a small insect like a mosquito
lands on us, it itches and causes us to scratch, thus removing the critter. If
a foreign object lodges in our nose, we blast it out with a sneeze, involuntarily.
A speck of dust in the eye causes tears to wash it out. When something
approaches our eyes, we blink to protect our eyes.. These
and other automatic functions are not learned processes. They were installed
in us pre-birth. Either by accident or by design, your choice. There
is more . . . When we are out in the sun too long, our skin darkens to
resist future damage from exposure. When
our body needs liquid, we thirst, when we are tired and in need of rest, we yawn and
find a place to sleep. Consider
the adrenalin response. When we are attacked, scared by something, or
otherwise threatened, a tiny gland secretes "super-juice" into our
bloodstream which gives us tremendous strength and alertness instantaneously,
lasting just long enough to save us, not hurt us. If
I listed just the things I understand about our design and functions, this would be
a 5 hour evotion, not 5 minute! So, I stop here and leave the rest to your
thoughts. Wait. One more.
There is something in us that causes us to be lonely, searching and constantly
expecting someone or something to fill a void in our lives. We can try to fill
that void with human companionship, career goals, education accomplishments, sex,
violence, drugs, sports accolades, civic service . . . The list of
things that will not fit this particular "hole in our heart" goes on and
on. Wouldn't it just make sense that
the same Designer of our human body made a signature move and created that void for
Himself to fill? Oh, by the way, His
name is . . . . . JESUS! Visit
