this time had passed, I, Nebuchadnezzar, looked up to heaven. My sanity returned,
and I praised and worshiped the Most High and honored the one who lives forever.
His rule is everlasting, and his kingdom is eternal. 35
All the people of the earth are nothing compared to him. He has the power to
do as he pleases among the angels of heaven and with those who live on earth.
No one can stop him or challenge him, saying, `What do you mean by doing these
things?' Nebuchadnezzar was
probably the greatest king who ever reigned on the earth. His city, Babylon,
was built to glorify his spectacular wealth and position. Everything he had
was beauty and splendor. But he had one problem. He
thought it was all his doing! Then one night he had a disturbing dream.
The interpretation was lost to all except his faithful counselor, Daniel (also known
as Belteshazzar). Here is the interpretation of the king's dream: The
LORD would remove Nebuchadnezzar's sanity for 7
years. He would live in the wild and eat grass until he acknowledged that the LORD
was the ONE TRUE
GOD. You
see, Nebuchadnezzar had many gods. And worse, his gods were not
the final authority in his life. Actually, his greatest god was
himself! Well, if you take the time to
read the whole chapter, you find that the dream came true. Nebuchadnezzar lost
everything and spent 7 years insane, eating grass and living in the wild. At
the end of this time his sanity returned, he acknowledged GOD
as the MOST HIGH,
and his kingdom was restored. So, what
is the practical application of this piece of history? Simple . . . JESUS
will do whatever HE deems necessary in our lives
to bring us into the proper perspective! Everyone's life is different, and HIS
way of bringing us to HIMSELF is different for
each person. But make no mistake.
HE loves us too much to let us perish in our own
Babylon. So, maybe some of the things that seem so crazy in our lives
at times are just opportunities for us to acknowledge HIM
as the LORD, and not only as SAVIOR. More
tomorrow. Do
