Today's
E-Votion The
Meaning of (this) Life Have
you ever wondered "what's it all about?" Let's take some time with the
Word of GOD to see what He has to say about it! Purpose
#1 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all
your soul and with all your mind.
Purpose #2 Love
your neighbor as yourself.
Ephesians 4:31-32 (New Living Translation)
Get rid of all
bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of malicious
behavior. Instead, be kind to each
other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven
you. Book after book has been
written on the topic of forgiveness, and for good reason. Forgiveness is at
the core of our salvation, it is why JESUS gave HIMSELF
up on the cross, it reunites us with a HOLY GOD
and keeps our lives clean and clear. But
sometimes it is just so hard to do. There is something in our (human) nature
that makes us hold on to grievances, whether petty or not. We just tend to do
it. It is as if we are just unwilling to give another a "free ride"
when they have done us wrong. But as
our verse points out, we are to forgive because we are forgiven. And we have
been forgiven by ONE who has no part in the
wrong we have done. Realize that almost every wrong has two sides to the
story. We are called to live in peace
with others as much as possible. We are to be kind and tenderhearted and
. . . forgiving. It is possible to be such a person with the help of the HOLY
SPIRIT. Even those that have gone either
by distance or passing away, need to be forgiven. It is for your well being as
well as the other's. I always mention
that forgiveness does not necessarily mean relationships will be restored,
especially in the case of past and potential abuse. It is the forgiving state
of our own heart that counts. After all, JESUS
said if we don't forgive others we will not receive forgiveness, and that would be
tragic! Start any way you can.
Say it to yourself, "I forgive __________, because JESUS
has forgiven me!" Then ask the LORD
to help with the process. I promise HE
will!
