- The Only Way
John 10:11
11"I
am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. As
you know, a Shepherd is one who tends to a flock or flocks of sheep. His job
is to feed, water, care for, lead and protect the flock. In the Old Testament,
GOD represented HIMSELF
as a Shepherd of HIS People, such as in Psalm 23
when David called HIM, "The LORD,
my Shepherd. When JESUS
referred to HIMSELF above as the Good
Shepherd, the religious leaders of the time could not help but to realize HE
was claiming to be GOD come in the flesh. Now,
a bit about shepherds. Some are hired to do the job, some do it because the
sheep belong them. Some love the sheep, some don't. Some will run from
an attack, some will fight. But rare is
the shepherd who will die for the sheep. And, actually, under normal
circumstances, this is not such a good idea. With the shepherd dead, the sheep
are left unprotected. Unless, the plan
included the shepherd coming back to life! And, if the only way to save the
sheep was for the shepherd to lose his own life to become victorious and to pass
that victory on to the sheep, this would be a bold and very excellent plan. Of
course, you know the story of the GOOD SHEPHERD,
JESUS. But you know it from history.
When JESUS was explaining the plan to the
people, they were perplexed, not knowing the full intentions of the FATHER
to save HIS people. There
has only ever been one Good Shepherd who laid down HIS
life for the people and came back to life with victory over death, hell and the
grave. And JESUS passes on that victory to
each and every person who comes to HIM. Are
