The
simple process of prayer.
In Tuedays Five Minute Praise we read, "The
truth is that we have three aspects to our lives: Body - Soul - Spirit. When
we are born the body is fully alive, the soul is under development and the spirit is -
well, for want of a better word, dead." Because
we live in a physical world we need our bodies (just for now) but sometime it simply gets
in the way Prayer is seemingly a simple process and there are so many kinds of prayer,
too. There is the 'off the cuff' type of prayer when we might think, "Please help me
get through this traffic jam..." or "Help me with this Saturday Wrap...". Another
kind of prayer is when we pray together, like in church or at a fellowship meeting. Yet
another prayer type is not deliberately given as prayer but is received as such...(He
is so loving. caring and wise).... When you are desperately worried or concerned He
hears your plight as a prayer for help; when you feel 'JOY' He
hears your prayer of thanks and praise; when you feel confused He
hears your prayer for guidance and when you feel alone He
hears your prayer for comfort. I think the most important prayer-type is to do with our
personal relationship with our Lord, the prayer we pray when
we are alone at a special, set-aside 'quiet time'. When we pray like this we should
leave our bodies behind....thoughts of prayer are in the mind which is born of the brain.
Words are spoken from the mouth which is of the body. There should be no thinking of
what to say next. Prayer comes from the heart it's not a thought process but is of the
spirit. If the prayer does not come He is still hearing what
is in your heart. It is an expression of need. We need to communicate, we need help, we
need to praise Him and glorify Him
and worship Him and thank Him.
In this unphysical place of prayer, there is no room for the flesh nor the mind. In
prayer we travel half way to 'a place' where we are met by He
who listens and answers. It is by God's grace that we can
meet this way. (God's
grace, you can not earn it, steel it nor borrow it. You can not buy it nor claim it. You
do not deserve or have a right to it. but God's Grace is upon
us all; He loves us. But do not allow yourself to feel too
safe or complacent or honored or favored in His grace, for
there is no sin you can perceive that you are not capable of committing .... the enemy is
always near) The enemy is near and will
always use our own bodies against us...like when you are trying to pray, isn't there
always some distraction or other...that unexpected sound of crashing dishes from the
kitchen that jerks you back into the physical world for an instant....or that raised
voice from the street or that itch on the side of your face trying desperately to slam the
door on our Lord. Sometimes that simple process of prayer can
become such a battle with your physical self. Fight on. |
