Wear your badge well
"Heroes are born of war and of conflict and of exceptional circumstance. Heroes are
those who in selfless action and with no regard for their own situation and without the
luxury of choice, have committed themselves in order to benefit others. Among all the
numbers of men and women there will always be heroes but it is not until we enter the
theatres of war or conflict or exceptional circumstance that these men and women stand
out from the rest. It is the immediate situation in which they find themselves that is
the litmus by which they are recognized and judged. Without the litmus, without the
crisis, without the urgency of the moment these men and women remain as anonymous as their
own innermost fears. Of course there are those in history who have acquitted
themselves well as heroes but somehow did not reflect what society has come to expect of
the archetypal hero. It is for this reason that awards have come to play their
part....badges of recognition". There are those
among you who are heroes, in fact, dear reader, YOU are the hero of whom I speak. You
modestly, almost traditionally so, play down the importance of your most vital
contribution. (to the Lord as well as to yourself) When
you asked the Lord into your life you also took on a most
formidable enemy...the truth about yourself. We read in a 'Five Minute Praise' #1523
(Jesus is the Lord of light. part one) that people like to hide away in the darkness,
"Those hiding in darkness have not or will not face the truth". 'The truth',
is the light of the Lord and the light of the Lord
is a mirror by which we can see ourselves for who we really are. So often we do not
recognize the reflection that stares back at us. To face such an enemy and accept, in
deed, confess that what you see is not good (and must be changed) makes you the ultimate
hero....and your badge of recognition? The love of Christ. |
